The most development scope—and responsibility.
Designing your own hardware and software gives you control over architecture and roadmap, subject to the licenses and contracts for the components you use. It also puts the integration, maintenance and validation program on your team and its partners.
Plan electronics and firmware engineering, radio/host authorization, vehicle validation, driver applications, record integrity, inspection output and ongoing support. Software ownership and access to design files depend on your development agreements; do not assume they transfer automatically.
This route is worth investigating when existing devices or platforms cannot meet a specific requirement and you have the resources to maintain the complete system. Build a requirements list and an itemized budget before committing.
Start with developer hardware.
These suppliers publish vehicle-device or developer-integration resources. Their inclusion is a starting point for research, not a ranking, a procurement recommendation or verification of your complete ELD configuration. Confirm current availability, SDK access and terms directly.
Pacific Track
Pacific Track publishes PT30/PT40 vehicle-device information, Android/iOS communication SDKs and integration services. Its solutions page describes protocol parsers for approved developers and management APIs.
Important distinction: its Eldman reference application is not an hours-of-service application. A hardware/SDK purchase does not, by itself, supply your complete ELD software.
IOSiX
The IO-1020 product information describes vehicle-data capture, GNSS, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and iOS/Android ELD APIs. Review connection options and the available manuals for your installation.
IOSiX identifies the need for a compatible complete ELD system. Device capabilities alone do not demonstrate that your app, firmware and output satisfy the requirements.
Geometris
Geometris publishes WhereQube Android Bluetooth integration examples, an iOS framework and device-scripting resources. The Android library describes access to vehicle values such as engine hours, speed, location and VIN.
Public SDK examples are not a guarantee of current OS support, a hardware supply agreement or complete ELD qualification. Ask Geometris about supported devices, firmware, SDK maintenance and commercial access.
Vendor capabilities are summarized from the linked vendors’ own materials. This guide has not independently tested these products. Company and product names belong to their respective owners.
Develop fewer layers in-house.
A combined hardware-and-hosted-software offering can reduce the amount of engineering you commission. In exchange, evaluate licensing, supported workflows, data access/export, domain setup, service continuity and the responsibilities that remain with your business.
Ask for the complete supported configuration, current operational readiness and evidence relevant to registration. Hosted access is not the same as owning the software or obtaining source code. Do not infer either from custom branding.
The placement above is promotional. This page does not make an independent ranking or claim that any provider is universally the easiest, cheapest or best option.
Ask for specifics before you sign.
- Configuration: Which devices, firmware, mobile OS versions, vehicles and connection methods are supported?
- Integration: Can your team access the protocol, SDK, event definitions and test environment? Under what license?
- Evidence: Which FCC grants, integration instructions, test results and ELD registration materials apply to the exact system?
- Responsibilities: Who maintains the firmware and software, supports drivers and prepares registration information?
- Commercial scope: What is owned, licensed or leased? What are the update, replacement, support and termination terms?
- Records: Can you retain and export the required data? What happens during service interruptions and when a contract ends?
- Readiness: What is shipping now, what is a roadmap commitment and what still needs qualification?
Verify answers against current official requirements and written contracts. A branded enclosure, SDK, website or sales assurance is not a substitute for evaluating the full system.
